AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs speaks to the Alabama Sports Writers Association in Jacksonville. Speaking at the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s 51st convention last weekend, AHSAA executive director Alvin Briggs said moving the AHSAA state’s semifinal football games to regionals is still a “possibility.”
The semi-finals are still on the table,” Briggs said. “We have to figure out how to regionalize.
Briggs said the stadiums at Alabama A&M, Jacksonville AHSAA State, Troy and South Alabama would be ideal sites for the semifinal games. He said an issue at the moment is a satisfactory location on the western side of the state to host the semifinal games.
Currently, all AHSAA state semifinal games are played on campus with Super 7 state championship games played on a rotating basis at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, and Defensive Stadium in Birmingham.
Briggs was also asked if the expanded College Football Playoff, starting in 2024, would affect future Super 7s at Auburn and Alabama.
Right now, we have contracts with those schools,” he said. “We don’t know how it will work. They don’t know how it will happen.”
Super 7 is scheduled to take place in Tuscaloosa this fall and in Birmingham in 2024.

He said 65 schools have announced girls’ wrestling.
