Italy’s ‘Mafia Emperor’ Matteo Messina Denaro has been arrested. On Monday, the police arrested him finally from a private clinic in Palermo, the capital of the Italian island of Sicily. He was on the run for 30 years. His name is on the list of Italy’s ‘most wanted’ accused.
According to the Italian media, Mafia Emperor Messina is suffering from cancer. He used to go to that clinic in Palermo for treatment. Moreover Hundreds of members of the armed forces took part in the operation to arrest him. After his arrest, Messina was taken to a secret location.

Messina, head of the notorious Cosa Nostra mafia, is accused of numerous murders. Messina once said that a graveyard could be filled with the number of people he killed. The court convicted him of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment in 2002 while on the run.

Mafia Emperor Messina was convicted in an Italian court in 1992 of two anti-mafia public prosecutors, the 1993 deadly bombings in Milan, Rome and Florence, and the kidnapping, torture and murder of the 11-year-old son of a man who became one of the mafia’s key state witnesses.
Police said Messina was receiving cancer treatment at the clinic in Sicily, besides keeping his identity a secret. Hundreds of armed forces raided the clinic based on tip-off. Mafia Emperor Messina is a convicted offender for numerous murders, bombings, kidnappings, torture, fraud and drug trafficking.
