The South Hills softball team Two players have been suspended.

The South Hills softball team’s top Two players, senior third baseman Isabella Venegas and junior catcher Madilyn Hernandez, are suspended for Friday’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 first-round playoff game at Murrieta Mesa, the Southern California News Group has learned.

The decision to suspend players is made by South Hills High administrators or the Covina Valley Unified School District.

The players were informed of the decision about six to seven hours before the South Hills game. Murrieta ended their season with a 9-2 win over Mesa South Hills.

CIF Southern Section Assistant Commissioner Thom Simmons said it was not a suspension imposed by the section office, noting, “The school imposed it because I don’t have any ejection reports for any South Hills softball players.

During South Hills’ 6-3 win over Corona Centennial in Tuesday’s wild-card round game, an incident occurred near third base after a South Hills player hit a triple while the Huskies led 5-1.

A video of the incident posted online showed players tilting at each other and a scuffle ensued, but it quickly dissipated. No punches appeared to be thrown.

The umpires discussed the incident and allowed play to continue without sending off any players.

South Hills softball coach Ralph Navarro did not comment.

South Hills co-athletic director Darren Murphy said he could not comment on why the players were suspended, referring questions to principal Dr. Alan Tyner.

Tyner responded in an email asking for an explanation for the decision.  More information click here
