President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has ordered a new investigation into alleged Chinese interference in United States elections. During an address from the White House, the president confirmed the declassification of intelligence documents that he contends expose significant vulnerabilities within the American electoral system.
Trump characterized the situation as the largest compromise of election data in history, alleging that Beijing gained unauthorized access to information from 220 million U.S. voter files. According to the president, this activity occurred over a period that began during the 2020 election cycle. He stated that he has directed the Director of National Intelligence and the FBI to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the full scope of the reported breach.
Highlighting his concerns, Trump argued that the incident proves the U.S. electoral system remains exposed to corruption and manipulation. He confirmed that federal authorities are currently working to notify individual states whose election data may have been compromised during the alleged operation.
In response to these findings, the president renewed his push for stricter national election security measures. He specifically urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would implement nationwide voter identification requirements. During the same appearance, Trump also criticized television networks that opted not to broadcast his speech live, suggesting that such outlets should face the loss of their licenses.
