Norfolk County Council has launched an official inquiry into the care of a 30-year-old man who was arrested following a serious incident at a zoo. The investigation is being conducted under the Care Act 2014, which mandates that local authorities examine risks to adults who have specific care and support needs.

The incident occurred on 18 June at Johnsons of Old Hurst, located near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. A young boy from Cambridgeshire, who was pictured visiting the zoo in April with his family, was attacked by at least one crocodile within an enclosure. The child’s family has reported that he has since undergone five separate surgeries and is facing a lengthy period of rehabilitation. He currently remains in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to the scene at approximately 13:30 BST on the day of the attack. Following the incident, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities believe the man, who is not thought to have known the child, has learning disabilities and was visiting the zoo accompanied by carers at the time.

The man has been released on bail until 18 September. Police have stated that he was assessed as not being fit for an interview. While Norfolk County Council did not provide the care for the individual, they have initiated this investigation to address the circumstances surrounding his support and the associated risks.
