Federal aviation officials are currently reviewing an air-traffic safety incident that took place on August 4 involving the military helicopter carrying President Donald Trump. According to reports citing individuals familiar with the matter, the incident occurred during the afternoon as the Marine One helicopter departed from the White House.
The review focuses on air-traffic control procedures at the nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Reports indicate that controllers failed to halt commercial flight operations as required by established safety protocols during the President's departure.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration addressed the incident, stating that the aircraft did not appear to get dangerously close under federal rules. The agency further clarified that the helicopter and a commercial jet taking off at the time were not converging, indicating that the event did not constitute a close call.
