Law enforcement authorities in Toronto launched a search for an active shooter on Saturday night following a violent incident that left multiple people wounded. Officers were called to the Salsa on St Clair festival, an area at St Clair Avenue West near Arlington Avenue that is lined with shops and restaurants, at 8.12pm over reports of a shooting with multiple injuries.
Upon arriving at the scene, which is typically bustling with shops and restaurants, police discovered six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the location. While initial reports from authorities indicated that five people had been wounded, the count was later updated to six.
There has been no immediate update regarding the medical condition of the four surviving victims. The Toronto police service issued a statement via the social media platform X, urging the public to stay away from the area and to strictly adhere to instructions provided by officers on the ground.
Toronto police said in a X post: “Please avoid the area immediately and follow all directions from police.”
