As Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine continues to reshape the continent's security landscape, the latest episode of The Ring brings together political leaders to address the difficult choices facing Europe. Hosted by Méabh Mc Mahon, the program highlights some of the season's most memorable exchanges regarding the continent's geopolitical future.
A central focus of the episode is the debate over military investment. MEPs Riho Terras, representing the EPP, and Martin Schirdewan, representing The Left, go head-to-head to discuss whether Europe should continue to increase its military spending and who should ultimately be responsible for paying the bill.
The program also examines the European Union's role in an increasingly volatile Middle East, with Spanish Socialist MEP Hana Jalloul and Austrian EPP MEP Reinhold Lopatka offering competing perspectives on the bloc's involvement. Furthermore, Estonian former General and MEP Riho Terras joins German MEP Özlem Demirel to analyze how Europe should respond to escalating regional tensions, specifically focusing on the balance between security concerns and diplomatic efforts.
This episode of The Ring was produced by Luis Albertos Altarejos and Amaia Echevarria, and was edited and directed by Vassilis Glynos.
