Pennsylvania law enforcement officials recently announced a significant development in a long-standing cold case involving the 2022 murders of a married couple in Chester Heights, an affluent suburb of Philadelphia. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the victims’ 33-year-old daughter, Michelle Zajko, has been formally charged in connection with the killings.

Zajko is allegedly affiliated with the Zizians, a cult-like organization comprised of highly educated individuals focused on existential concerns such as artificial intelligence. Investigators believe she orchestrated the murders of her parents, 71-year-old Richard Zajko and 69-year-old Rita Zajko, on the morning of her 30th birthday. The attack reportedly occurred after Michelle received a text from her mother attempting to reconcile their strained relationship. Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse stated during a press briefing that the investigation was exhaustive, confirming that Michelle Zajko was at least partially responsible for the deaths.

The bodies were discovered on January 2, 2023. Autopsy results indicated that Rita Zajko died from a gunshot wound to the back of her head, while Richard Zajko suffered gunshot wounds to his right hand and temple. While investigators have assembled significant evidence, including ballistics, text messages, and audio from security footage where a voice is heard yelling “Mom,” Rouse noted that they are still searching for a second unidentified individual seen entering the residence before the incident. Officials maintain that Zajko did not act alone.

The connection between the Zajko case and the Zizians surfaced through broader federal investigations, including a fatal 2024 shootout involving a Border Patrol agent in Vermont. During that incident, the suspect who provided the weapons to the shooters was identified by the ATF as Michelle Zajko. The Zizians, led by Alaskan computer scientist Jack “Ziz” LaSota, have been linked to multiple violent incidents across the U.S. in recent years.

Following the discovery of her parents’ bodies, police briefly detained Michelle Zajko at a hotel near the Philadelphia airport in January 2023. She eventually fled the scene, leaving behind $40,000 in cash inside her vehicle. After years of uncertainty regarding her location, Zajko and LaSota were eventually apprehended in February 2025 in Frostburg, Maryland, on trespassing and weapons charges. They are currently awaiting trial. Reflecting on the development, the victims’ aunt, Rosanne Zajko, expressed gratitude to the investigators for their efforts in pursuing justice for her family.
