At least 15 Indian tourists lost their lives after a boat carrying a group of travelers capsized off the coast of Phu Quoc, a southern island in Vietnam. According to local media reports, including the VnExpress website, the vessel was carrying 36 people when it overturned approximately 400 meters away from the May Rut Ngoai islet.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, a rescue operation was launched involving multiple tourist vessels and the coast guard. Twenty-one people were rescued, and all the dead were recovered, authorities said. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has officially released the names of all 32 Indian nationals who were on board the boat at the time of the incident.
Addressing the situation on Saturday, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam stated on X that they had established control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy in Hanoi to provide necessary information and support. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that the tourists were visiting Vietnam to participate in an annual meeting organized by a private mobile phone company. Many of those involved in the accident were identified as employees and distributors for Lava Mobile, hailing from the state of Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister added that personnel from the Indian Embassy were present at the scene to assist those affected.
