The United States President has escalated his criticism of Spain, describing the country as a “wasted cause” and issuing a directive for trade to be halted. This latest outburst follows a period of mounting tension between Washington and Madrid.
The diplomatic rift originated earlier this year when the Spanish government, based in Moncloa, blocked the use of the Rota and Morón military bases. These facilities were intended to support Washington’s bombing campaign against Iran. Following that decision, the US President had already issued warnings in March, threatening to implement economic reprisals against Spain in response to the denial of access to the strategic bases.
