Reports on the intensity of the event varied slightly between international monitoring agencies. While the US Geological Survey recorded the quake at magnitude 5.0, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) measured the event at magnitude 5.4. The German agency further recorded the depth of the seismic activity at approximately 6 miles, or 10 kilometers.
In response to the seismic event, the Egyptian Red Crescent announced that it had activated its emergency response plan across the affected governorates. Despite the tremors being felt in the region, there were no immediate reports of property damage or casualties.
