A devastating overnight attack involving ballistic missiles and drones has resulted in 14 deaths and left at least 22 people injured across Kyiv, marking one of the deadliest strikes on the Ukrainian capital this year. The military assault began shortly after midnight on Wednesday, prompting air raid alerts that lasted for more than an hour as waves of ballistic missiles impacted the city and its surrounding areas.
Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed the scale of the offensive, stating that the enemy was once again conducting a massive attack on the region. According to local authorities, the casualties were spread across several districts: nine people were killed in Boryspil, four in Bucha, and one in the Fastiv district. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that four of the injured individuals remain in serious condition, noting fears that more people could be trapped beneath the rubble of damaged residential buildings and warehouses.
The Kyiv military administration condemned the offensive, stating that Russia is once again deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. There has been no official comment from Russia regarding the incident. This escalation occurs as both sides intensify their respective military campaigns; while Russia has increased its focus on Kyiv, Ukraine has ramped up strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure, including power facilities and depots belonging to the e-commerce giant Wildberries. The broader conflict continues to see significant civilian impact. Russian officials reported that a drone attack on a busy beach in the Krasnodar region on Monday left seven people dead and 58 injured. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have expressed outrage over a video appearing to show a man being chased by a drone in Kherson, describing the incident as a deliberate "hunt" and "safari" against civilians. Both nations have denied intentionally targeting non-combatants. As the violence continues, Ukraine has urged its allies to provide additional US-made Patriot missile interceptors to bolster its defense against ongoing ballistic attacks.
