The Qingdao Grand Prix returned for a second day of elite, world-class judo action. The event began with an impressive opening ceremony that paved the way for the day’s medal contests.
Dignitaries present at the event included International Judo Federation General Treasurer Dr. Naser Al Tamimi, Honorary Vice President of the International Judo Federation and Taishan Sports Industry Group Founder Mr. Bian Zhiliang, Deputy Director General of the Shandong Administration of Sports Mr. Lin Chun, and Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Judo Association Mr. Yue Yan.
In the women’s -63kg final, Narumi Tanioka and Jisu Kim battled through an intense contest that required a Golden Score period to determine the winner. Tanioka ultimately secured the gold medal following a yuko earned from a hold down. The medals for this category were presented by Qingdao Municipal People’s Government Vice Mayor Mr. Zhao Shengcun.
The -73kg division saw Tatsuki Ishihara claim his first-ever Grand Prix gold medal in Qingdao, following an outstanding performance during the preliminary rounds. International Judo Federation Executive Committee Member and Uzbekistan Judo Federation President Mr. Azizjon Kamilov awarded the medals for this weight class.
Lara Cvjetko secured her second Qingdao title and her fifth Grand Prix gold overall in the -70kg category, demonstrating her seasoned competitive experience throughout the day. Realcan Pharmaceutical Group Co Limited Chair Mr. Han Xu presented the medals to the winners.
In the men’s -81kg final, Bernd Fasching took on Zelim Tckaev. The Azeri judoka emerged victorious after executing two dominant waza-ari throws that sealed the match. The awards were presented by Impulse Health Tech Co Limited Chair Mr. Liu Hongtao. The competition is set to resume tomorrow with the heavyweight categories.
