Biden Labels Trump a Loser Over White House Renovation Projects

During a gala held in Maryland over the weekend, former President Joe Biden directed sharp criticism at his Oval Office successor, labeling him a “loser.” Biden accused the current administration of being consumed by “vanity projects” at the White House and the Kennedy Center.

Biden highlighted several specific initiatives, citing the construction of an “arch in his own honor” and the decision to hire a private contractor specifically to manage repairs on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The 46th president bluntly remarked, “Whoa, what a loser.”

The 47th president has historically maintained a strong interest in building and renovation efforts. He has frequently asserted that his actions are intended to beautify the nation’s capital, pointing to projects ranging from a planned ballroom in the East Wing to ongoing work at the Reflecting Pool. However, these projects have faced scrutiny from critics regarding their necessity and execution, particularly given that the White House has repeatedly emphasized a commitment to reducing government waste, fraud, and abuse.

For instance, in April, Trump described the Reflecting Pool as a “filthy, dirty” environment that was “leaking like a sieve.” An analysis conducted by USA TODAY regarding federal contract data revealed that the government had already allocated $8.5 million toward repairs just 20 days prior to the president’s announcement, even though Trump suggested the cost would be $2 million. The site has since faced intense scrutiny as crews have struggled to manage algae blooms that caused the water to turn green after it was painted blue.

On June 27, Biden stated, “The Reflecting Pool reflects something even worse: the narcissism and incompetence at the core of this administration.” Meanwhile, the Trump administration has encountered challenges in both the courts and Congress concerning projects at the Kennedy Center and the proposed new ballroom. Notably, a federal judge recently issued an order requiring the Kennedy Center to explain the presence of scaffolding and a tarp covering its main entrance following the removal of Trump’s name from the facility.

Biden’s remarks were made on the two-year anniversary of his own 2024 debate performance, which prompted significant calls from within the Democratic Party for him to withdraw from the race, ultimately leading to Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful candidacy.
