A catastrophic fire tore through the Na Ladprao pub in the northern region of Bangkok early Monday morning, claiming the lives of at least 27 people. Emergency responders were alerted to the blaze around midnight, and footage captured by those on the scene depicted thick black smoke billowing into the night sky as patrons desperately attempted to escape the building.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived at the site to oversee the situation and confirmed the death toll, noting that several individuals injured in the fire were transported to local hospitals for urgent care. While the official cause of the incident remains under investigation, the Prime Minister shared accounts from a performer who had been on stage shortly before the tragedy. The musician described observing smoke emanating from a circuit breaker near the stage area; immediately after the power failed, an explosion occurred, causing the pub to be rapidly engulfed in dense smoke.
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes. Following the fire, images of the interior revealed the extent of the destruction, showing charred furniture and a severely damaged structure. Many of the victims were discovered by search teams in the restrooms located at the back of the establishment.
Thailand has struggled with similar fatal nightclub fires in the past. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in the eastern part of the country killed 14 people. A much larger tragedy occurred on January 1, 2009, when an indoor fireworks display sparked a massive blaze at the Santika nightclub in Bangkok, resulting in 66 deaths and injuring more than 200 others.
Firefighters took about half an hour to bring the fire under control. Photos of the aftermath show charred tables and chairs, and the damaged interior of the pub.
