A new analysis indicates that at least 193 million people throughout Europe are projected to endure temperatures surpassing 35C this Saturday. This figure marks an increase from the previous day as the ongoing heatwave continues its path toward the east.

Germany is poised to be significantly impacted, with forecasts suggesting that 82 million residents will experience temperatures exceeding 30C, a group that includes 75 million individuals facing extreme heat of over 35C. Meanwhile, in Hungary, nearly the entire population of over nine million people is expected to suffer through temperatures climbing above 35C.

Data analysis shows that approximately 404 million people across Europe, excluding Turkey, are set to face temperatures above 30C on Saturday, representing a minor decrease from the preceding day. To put this in perspective, Friday saw at least 150 million people experiencing heat above 35C, while about 420 million were subjected to temperatures higher than 30C.

Several nations, including Britain, France, Spain, and Switzerland, have already registered record-breaking temperatures during this event. The sweltering conditions are currently shifting to affect large areas of the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary. In France, the number of people experiencing temperatures over 35C is expected to reach 26 million, which is a decline compared to the previous day’s data.

The findings are based on a combination of 2025 population projections provided by the Joint Research Centre and forecasts from the German Meteorological Service. This analysis aligns with figures independently reported by the Austrian non-governmental organization, Klimadashboard.
