A fire erupted on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City while the city was hosting its annual July Fourth fireworks display. The incident resulted in a plume of smoke and visible flames, prompting a swift response from emergency crews who managed to extinguish the blaze before it could spread further. According to the New York City Fire Department, there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
To address the situation, firefighters utilized two fire engines to douse the flames on the bridge shortly before 10 p.m. At the time of the event, the iconic bridge had already been closed to vehicular traffic to accommodate the fireworks show. A spokesperson for the fire department noted that such fires are not entirely unexpected during these types of pyrotechnic displays, which is precisely why officials maintain a significant distance between the public and the launch sites.
The city’s fireworks schedule had been moved up earlier than planned due to the threat of severe weather conditions. This weather pattern impacted various celebrations along the East Coast, leading to delays and cancellations in other regions. Notably, in Washington, D.C., incoming storms forced authorities to evacuate crowds gathered on the National Mall.
