Prince Harry to Visit UK Alone After Security Dispute

Prince Harry is expected to travel to the United Kingdom next week without his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, or their two children, Archie and Lilibet. While the family had initially planned to visit the country together starting Monday, those arrangements have changed following confirmation that they would not be provided with taxpayer-funded police security.

The Duke of Sussex previously stated in 2025 that he could not foresee a scenario where he would bring his family back to the UK without improved security measures. The ongoing challenge regarding protection involves the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which holds the authority to determine security provisions for senior royals and public figures. While discussions regarding security for the later portion of the visit are reportedly continuing, no final decisions have been reached.

Although the family will not accompany him to London, there remains a possibility that Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet could join the Prince later in the week as the trip shifts to Birmingham for events related to the Invictus Games. Should she arrive later, the Duchess is scheduled to join her husband at the National Exhibition Centre to mark the one-year countdown to the Games. On Thursday, Prince Harry is also slated to visit a children’s hospital in Birmingham to support the charity WellChild, an organization he has remained committed to since relocating to the United States.

It remains uncertain whether a meeting will occur between King Charles and his grandchildren, whom he has not seen in person for four years. The King has a series of public engagements scheduled for next week, and Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on private family matters. There had been prior reports suggesting the trip might include a visit to Althorp in Northampton, the family estate of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, with plans for the family to visit her private grave.

Prince Harry and Meghan were last seen together in the UK during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. Since then, the Prince has traveled to the country on several occasions alone, including a visit last September to meet with his father.
