A vibrant wave of two-wheeled vehicles recently transformed the historic streets of Rome. Approximately 25,000 Vespa enthusiasts representing 67 different nations converged upon the Eternal City to mark the 80th anniversary of the world’s most iconic and cherished scooter.

The commemorative event, titled “Vespa Roma 2026 – 80 years of an icon,” spans from June 25 to 28, drawing thousands of spectators and turning the Italian capital into the epicenter of motor culture.

The highlight of the festivities occurred Saturday morning during a grand parade through the city. Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri officially inaugurated the procession, which was led by the presidents of Vespa Clubs from the participating countries. The long column of scooters departed from the Baths of Caracalla, passing by the Colosseum, circling the Altare della Patria in Piazza Venezia, and moving along the Imperial Forums to the cheers of residents and tourists.

The parade featured over 160 models that have defined the brand’s history since 1946. Fans were treated to sights of rare early models, such as the original Vespa 98, the legendary “faro basso” series from the 1950s, and the classic VBBs of the 1960s. The showcase also included popular models like the ET3, GTR, Rally, and the timeless PX, alongside modern Primavera and GTS scooters ridden by long-distance travelers.

Participants hailed from across the globe, including riders who transported their scooters from the United States to Europe to complete the journey to Rome. Chilean attendee Elizabeth Husman noted that the event captures a shared passion, stating that the Vespa feels like a machine with its own soul. Italian rider Andrea Musco added that for him, the Vespa represents a specific lifestyle focused on freedom, peace of mind, and experiencing the environment at a leisurely pace.

Celebrations continue at the “Vespa Village” located at the Stadio dei Marmi in the Foro Italico. Open to the public with free entry until Sunday, the venue offers live music, entertainment, and exhibition spaces, including a collection of rare models from the Piaggio Museum. This international rally not only celebrated an industrial success story but also showcased the Vespa’s enduring ability to unite diverse generations and cultures through a shared love for the iconic design.
