Russian Ballistic Missiles Strike Kyiv Overnight

Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched a major ballistic missile attack against Kyiv during an overnight operation on Sunday. Witnesses on the ground reported hearing several explosions, including those from air defense systems. An AFP journalist reported that one of the explosions was so powerful that it set off car alarms across the city center.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that multiple fires broke out across both residential and non-residential areas. Emergency services were dispatched to address incidents at a dormitory, a residential block, and a supermarket. According to Klitschko, at least seven people sustained injuries during the barrage, with one individual receiving treatment at the scene.

Conflicting reports emerged regarding casualties. While the city military administration stated on Telegram that one person was killed in the attack, Mayor Klitschko did not report any fatalities in his own communications.

As Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine enters its fourth year, both combatants have frequently utilized drone strikes. However, Moscow has increasingly relied on ballistic missiles to target Kyiv and various other locations throughout the country. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have expressed concern regarding the dwindling supply of interceptor missiles necessary to defend against these Russian ballistic threats.
