Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have officially announced their intention to fight extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face a series of serious criminal allegations. The brothers were taken into custody by authorities in Miami over the weekend following an announcement from UK prosecutors regarding fresh charges, which include multiple counts of rape, sex trafficking, and assault.
With the addition of these new accusations, the brothers now face a total of 59 charges, with 42 counts brought against Andrew Tate and 17 against Tristan Tate. In the coming weeks, United States authorities are expected to evaluate whether the legal conditions for their extradition to the UK have been met.
Speaking to the media outside a Miami court on Monday, the brothers' attorney, Joe McBride, characterized the legal action as a "political witch hunt." McBride asserted that his clients are innocent and are being targeted for their public statements rather than for any criminal actions. "We are, of course, objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent. They've never done nothing wrong. They shouldn't be extradited for crimes they did not commit," McBride stated.
The lawyer claimed that the arrests came as a surprise to the brothers and suggested the move was politically motivated. McBride further speculated that the timing of the arrest was linked to the departure of former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, though he offered no specific evidence to support this claim. He also noted that the brothers had recently met with "friends in Washington, DC," including unnamed congressional representatives, and argued that their subsequent arrest was not a coincidence. "We went to see our Congress people in DC and now we're getting arrested. This feels political," he said.
Andrew Tate remains a prominent figure within the "manosphere," with content centered on themes of traditional masculinity, anti-feminism, and self-improvement. While he maintains a following of over 10 million on X, he has been removed from platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for violating policies regarding hate speech, and his public commentary has faced widespread criticism.

The brothers were surprised when they were arrested, McBride said, adding that the attempt to have them extradited was politically motivated. "There's no question about it," he told reporters.
