Three men who faced charges in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee have been found not guilty by a court. The 29-year-old author was killed in April 2019 after being struck by a gunshot while observing disturbances near police vehicles in the Creggan area of Londonderry. Her death occurred more than seven years ago, sparking widespread condemnation at the time.
The individuals acquitted of the joint enterprise murder charge are 38-year-old Peter Cavanagh of Mary Street in Derry, 25-year-old Jordan Gareth Devine of Bishop Street, and 58-year-old Paul McIntyre of Kells Walk. The New IRA, a dissident republican paramilitary group, previously claimed responsibility for the killing of the journalist.
