Typhoon Bavi officially made landfall in Taizhou, located in eastern China, late Friday night. According to data provided by the National Meteorological Center, the storm struck the region at approximately 11:20 p.m. local time, which corresponds to 1520 GMT.
At the time of impact, the typhoon was generating maximum sustained winds of roughly 144 kilometers per hour, or 90 miles per hour. This intensity level is classified as equivalent to a Category 1 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The landfall followed a large-scale safety operation that saw nearly 2 million residents evacuated from the path of the storm.
