The Ukrainian parliament officially accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Monday. The move follows an announcement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the weekend regarding his intention to reshuffle the cabinet as part of a shift in the nation's political strategy.

Reflecting on her tenure in a farewell address, Svyrydenko stated, "Every day this year demanded difficult decisions and decisive action. I am deeply grateful for the trust and support I received. You also know that I have always believed results matter most."

President Zelenskyy confirmed the necessity of the cabinet changes via a post on X, noting that he had consulted with Svyrydenko on the matter. While the President did not name a successor, reports from the Kyiv Independent, citing unnamed sources, have suggested that Serhii Koretskyi, the CEO of the national oil and gas company Naftogaz, could be a candidate for the position.

Svyrydenko, who is 39 years old and previously served as the economy minister, assumed the role of prime minister in July 2025. Her appointment followed her significant efforts in negotiating a mineral agreement between Ukraine and the United States, a deal intended to strengthen the security ties between the two nations. Although unconfirmed, there is speculation in Ukrainian media that she may be appointed as the country's next ambassador to the United States. President Zelenskyy noted that she has been offered a new, important role involving a key international partner.

Despite the high-level personnel changes, the government maintains that its long-term objectives remain unchanged. Taras Kachka, the deputy prime minister for European integration, stated on Tuesday that the government transition would not disrupt the country's plans for European Union integration. Speaking in Brussels ahead of the formal opening of accession negotiation chapters concerning external relations, Kachka emphasized that the reform process and negotiations remain an unconditional priority for the Ukrainian government.
