US Launches Fresh Strikes Against Iran Amid Rising Tensions

The United States has initiated a new wave of military strikes against Iran, following President Donald Trump's declaration that he would continue to hit the country hard. This escalation comes after a series of reciprocal attacks on Tuesday, which effectively ended the ceasefire agreement established just last month.

Trump described the latest offensive as necessary retribution for the Iranian bombing of ships within the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lane.

Iranian state media reported multiple explosions across the nation's southern coastal regions, specifically impacting the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik. Additional blasts were documented in the cities of Konarak and Chabahar, while two projectiles reportedly struck the island of Abu Musa, a territory currently subject to a long-standing ownership dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

In Bandar Abbas, authorities activated air defense systems in response to the strikes, with state television noting at least eight distinct explosions in the area.

While the full extent of the damage remains unverified, reports indicate power disruptions in Chabahar and a fire at an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) barracks located in Bushehr. The Iranian Students' News Agency confirmed that two of three power lines affected in Chabahar were restored shortly after the incidents.

Meanwhile, regional instability has spread, with Gulf nations reporting Iranian-linked attacks; these include explosions in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, intercepted missiles and drones in Kuwait, and a security alert issued by Qatar.

US Central Command (Centcom) stated that the operations were intended to further degrade Tehran’s capacity to threaten freedom of navigation. The command emphasized that the US holds Iran accountable for unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews.

Despite these actions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on social media by stating that Iran would answer with action rather than vulgarity.

Although the 60-day negotiation window established by the previous memorandum of understanding has not yet expired, President Trump dismissed the possibility of further talks, labeling them a waste of time. These current hostilities follow previous exchanges of fire on June 26 and 27, which had briefly led both sides to agree to a stand-down before the latest breakdown in diplomatic relations.
