Following a substantial reduction in fuel taxes that took effect on July 1st, Sweden has rapidly shifted to become one of the most budget-friendly nations in Europe for purchasing petrol and diesel. Recent analysis conducted last month by the Swedish news agency TT, which evaluated fuel costs across 35 countries, found that only North Macedonia offered cheaper petrol than Sweden.

Regarding diesel, the situation is similarly favorable for consumers, with Sweden now holding the title of the fifth cheapest country in Europe. It trails only Bosnia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Poland in terms of pricing.

In anticipation of a surge in demand, fuel station operators across the country have been working tirelessly to maintain full reserves. This preparation is particularly intense in regions bordering Norway, where many residents already rely on Swedish stations for their fuel needs. The government-mandated tax relief on these fuels is scheduled to remain in effect for a five-month period, running from July 1st through November 30th. Officials anticipate that these measures will effectively lower costs at the pump by approximately three kronor per litre.
