Tesla mechanics represented by the IF Metall union are set to resume their strike at various workshops across Sweden. The renewed industrial action is scheduled to begin on August 13th, impacting facilities located in Malmö, Umeå, Uppsala, Upplands Väsby, Segeltorp, and Huddinge.
This latest development follows a breakdown in negotiations between the union and the electric vehicle manufacturer's local subsidiary, TM Sweden AB. According to reports from the Dagens Arbete newspaper, the union formally notified the Swedish Mediation Institute of the impasse. In their communication, the union stated that despite lengthy discussions, they were unable to reach an agreement, noting that TM Sweden AB has explicitly signaled it does not intend to sign a collective agreement for its operations.
The strike is a continuation of a long-running labor dispute that first began in October 2023. Earlier this spring, the union had implemented a temporary pause in the strike at several workshops, which allowed approximately 40 mechanics to return to their duties. That pause has now ended as the union resumes its pressure on the company to secure a collective agreement.
